Over time, wool fabrics develop many small bobbles and lint balls. These occur due to abrasion. Loose fibres in the fabric become matted and make items such as woollen jumpers look worn out more quickly and appear older than they actually are. It is not possible to stop pilling altogether, but there are a few tricks you can use to limit it.
Use a lint roller on woollen items when they are new to remove loose fibres that are in and on the fabric as a result of the production process. This prevents the loose fibres from forming into balls.
Before washing woollen clothing, always turn it inside out; wash it using the gentle Wool program.
Fabric softener leaves a slippery film on the surface of the fibres, making it easier for individual fibres to work their way out of the fabric and then form balls.
If a few bobbles have appeared anyway, you can shave these off with a lint shaver. You must be careful, however, with loosely knitted clothing, as the lint shaver could cut individual threads. For this kind of clothing, remove the lint balls using a cashmere comb instead.
