Why is the washing machine not starting?

There may be several reasons why the washing machine is not starting a program.

Please follow the recommendations listed below.

What to check, if the washing machine does not start a program?

  • Child lock has been activated.
  • The door is not locked properly.
  • The start button is held down too short or too long.

Child lock has been activated.

Deactivate the child lock. This is one of the most common problems that prevents customers from being able to use their Siemens washing machines, but luckily it can be deactivated very easily. Depending on the model of your Siemens washing machine, there are several ways that the child lock can be deactivated, so that washing machine can be started.

How to deactivate the child lock of your washing machine?

  • When the child lock is activated, there will either be a key symbol or a “CL” symbol in the display and all the washing machine buttons will be disabled. To deactivate the child lock, press and hold the start button for three to five seconds. After this time you will hear an audible beep and the key symbol will disappear.
  • Another way to deactivate the child lock on some Siemens washing machine models is to press and hold the ”rpm” and the ”finished in” buttons together for approximately three seconds. After this time you will hear an audible beep and the key symbol will disappear.
  • If your Siemens washing machine has an advanced touch screen display, there should be an illuminated square button with a key symbol and ”3 sec” underneath it. Simply hold this button down for three seconds, the button will darken and an audible beep will indicate that the child lock has been deactivated.

In the video you will find the explanation for some model ranges.

Please consult your instruction manual to find out more about how to activate and deactivate the child lock for your Siemens washing machine and how it should be used.

You can lock the washing machine to prevent the functions you have set from being changed inadvertently.

  • The childproof lock can be activated regardless of the appliance's status.
  • The childproof lock remains active, even once the washing machine has been switched off. Before selecting the next program, deactivate the childproof lock.
  • If the appliance is switched off while the program is running and childproof lock is activated, the program continues when the appliance is switched back on.

The door is not locked properly.

A washing machine will not start if the door is not locked properly. Therefore close the door properly until you can hear an audible click. An overloaded washing machine drum may be preventing the door from being closed properly. For more information on how to fill your washing machine correctly follow the link beneath.

Also check whether an item of washing is jammed between the door and the housing.

The start button is held down too short or too long.

To start a program, you will need to press and hold the start button slightly longer than the other buttons on the washing machine, approximately 1 to 2 seconds. A brief press will not be sufficient. If the button is held down too long, a double audible beep will be heard and the washing machine will not start. This prevents a program from being started through any accidental contact with the start button.
